So, here it is, my check-in for Tales From the Scales. And the verdict is, I'm up one pound. But I figured early in the week that it wasn't going to be a loosing week. First of all, I can tell that I'm getting stronger because I can do more yoga, and I can do it better. My stick pose arms are actually sorta bent (it's supposed to look like the bottom of a push-up) and I am also doing more poses. So there's definitely more of that muscle stuff there. It feels weird, actually. I'm developing upper body strength (in a very small way still) which I've never ever had before. So I knew that in order to loose on the scales this week,I'd have to loose quite a bit. I'm also still struggling with my water. I just can't seem to get back into my routine with that. Still, this week was better than last week, so I'm making progress.
Sunday was my birthday. We went out for Mongolian Barbecue, and it was wonderful. But I'm sure that it wasn't exactly a lite dinner. Then we had cake. Now, I did tell Andy to get a small cake, which he did. It was delicious, and it was gone in only two days, so no lingering badness there. And we skipped the ice cream. So I didn't do too badly. But it's not a loosing week.
Last week: 189
This week: 190

Well happy belated birthday! 1 pound gained is certainly better than you would have done in previous years. It's good to just enjoy yourself sometimes.
Water is my big problem right now too. I'm trying to get in the habit of drinking more. Congrats on the increase on muscle and happy birthday.
Happy Birthday! Sounds like you are making great progress with working out and making healthy choices. It's OK to splurge on birthdays. :-D

Happy Birthday to yooouuuu! =) Congrats on your small splurge! That's wonderful that you allowed yourself a treat but didn't go overboard. =)
I'm having a bad week too; my treadmill broke and it will cost about $300 to fix and I just don't have it. It's killing me. =( I know I'm going to be up at the end of the week. *sigh*
Help on the water thing: set a timer. =Þ It's the only way I can remember to get any. I drink 1 cup with my breakfast and then set the timer for an hour and when it goes off I drink another cup. If you do this throughout the day you get enough.
Another alternative is to set it for 30 minutes; that way you've drunk the recommended amount of water by the early afternoon and so (hopefully) you won't be peeing all night long. =D
I LOVE yoga...but the only TV we have is in the living room...where the dog in all his hair-shedding glory is. I just can't get down on the carpet with all that hair. Yech.
Shannon - I'm really not worried about the gain this week, as I was pretty sure early on that I was not going to like the numbers this week. The water thing is messing with my weight, and then I'm gaining muscle, which is, I'm told, heavy stuff. So with that all by itself I wasn't really very sure that I was going to show a loss this week. Add in the birthday festivities and I was pretty sure that the numbers weren't going to be "right" this time. Funny thing is, knowing that ahead of time, I really didn't mind.
Heather - I started out using Sandra Deason's Yoga for Weight Loss video, which I like, but it's an hour long, and it doesn't wait when the Boy suddenly asks to be read a story in the middle of the work out, which invariably happens. After all, why else would I be in the living room?? But I did the video for long enough that I feel pretty confident with the poses (although someday when I'm rich & famous I'd like to take an actual class) and so now I'm doing the Sun Salutations outlined in the Power Yoga book. Sun Salutations are nice cuz no individual sequence is very long, so I can finish one up before I read that story or find the sippy or whatever, but they do a very nice job of working me. I'm getting mus-cles. Crazy!
Courtney - thanks! It was a good day. I'm working on the water thing. I just need to adjust my habits to less sitting on my butt time, as that doesn't work well with a toddler. =D
Mama Bear - I totally agree, splurging on birthdays is an approved activity!!
Keeley - that is a complete bummer that your treadmill broke. A treadmill's the next piece of equipment that we'd like to get. We've got a recumbant bike already, which is nice, except that the Monkey likes to play with the cords, and with Andy in school full time and working 45-50 hours most weeks, if I wait till he can distract the Monkey my workouts will mostly never happen. So I don't use the bike much anymore. That's ok though, I like yoga. However, I don't have a dog to shed. (sniff. I keep trying to talk Andy into a bigish one, but he's not buying it.)
Actually, my FIL is a chiropractor & recommends drinking a quart for every 50 lbs, so for me that's just about 1 gallon. So when I say that I'm short on water, it means that I probably only drank about 1/2 gallon, which is your 8 8-ounce glasses. But the second 1/2 gallon, drunk consistently, makes SUCH a difference! And it makes my weight consistent, so I can weigh myself every day if I want to. And I want to. Then I can see bad stuff coming & fix it, and I can see good stuff coming too, and that's very motivating. I have a 1/2 gallon cup that I fill & set next to me & magically it gets empty. Trick is setting for long enough to drink all that water. I'm getting better, I've just got to build some new, toddler-friendly, water habits.
