Sand Sculptures, Part 1

We're making sand sculptures, starting with ocean critters. Last night, we made the dough. Monkey almost never will get gooey, and he had a slow start this time too. But before he was done he told me, "This is fun. We should do this again."

If you decide to do something similar, I suggest cleanup with a hose. This is really messy, gums up the sink, and Andy tells me the sand will get caught in the u-bend gas traps under the sink.

Looks like fun! Where'd you guys get the sand? Did you find some at Michael's or did you go borrow some from a beach?

It was fun! The sand actually came from Walmart; $2 for a huge bag. We'll probably be doing more sand-art projects, because there's just so much of it! And I may donate some to a friend with a sandbox.

That looks like fun! I think I'll put the kids in bathing suits and use your hose suggestion :)

It was fun, but... don't keep the sand dough more than just overnight. I'm planning to post again about this, but I haven't had a chance to do it again with Monkey because the whole family got sick: the dough fermented in my ziplock back. SERIOUSLY stinky. So don't keep it around. Make your stuff. I'm hoping that it's not so stinky when it dries out.

Hmm... still got some left? Think I might grab a couple scoops when I'm over for Labor Day?
