Sleeping Gear

Monkey likes to take things to bed with him. Usually it's pretty normal stuff. Books, stuffed bears. A water bottle. Last night he wanted to sleep with his head in his laundry basket. We took it out of bed after I took the picture.

This afternoon, he's been helping Dad fix things. They worked on both of our toilets. Monkey loves the socket wrench. Amazingly, "socket" and "chocolate" are very hard to tell apart when he says them. But, when Daddy couldn't come and put him down for his nap, the socket wrench was an acceptable consolation prize.

That is SO cute! My 3 year old likes to wait until I've closed the door at nap time, then pull the oddest things up onto her bed, like her electric keyboard, a baby stroller, a crate full of play food. I find it all piled around her when I go to wake her up!

It's amazing the stuff that he wants to take to bed with him. Motorcycles, the tape measure, you name it. But the laundry basket & socket wrench really take the cake.

Hahaha! This makes me laugh as right at this moment Andrew is in bed with so much stuff I don't know how he himself fits in there. =D

That laundry basket and socket wrench are the cutest thing. =D

So, what makes them want all this stuff in bed with them anyway??

I think it's in all children's natures to get attached to things. They attach to their parents, family members, family pets, and socket wrenches. I think it's probably their way of identifying with their surroundings and this helps them have a foundation upon which to identify themselves.

They have a pretty dang difficult job - they have to figure out who they are and how they fit into their world.

What do you think to that theory?

Your theory sounds plausible. I really don't know. I find it interesting that this is something that the little guys do, and not so much the big ones, given what sponges they are from birth to 3. It seems like there was a talk in General Conference a while back about how important those first 3 years are in laying the foundation for life. Thing is, it's sooo hard to tell what's going on in these little guys' heads, since their speech is still incomplete. Even Monkey, who amazed me again today at the things he was saying at dinner tonight, still has a ways to go before his speech is clear and grammatically complete. It can be very difficult to tell what's going on behind those big blue eyes!

Andrew went to sleep in the laundry hamper this afternoon. I joke not. He really wanted to so Ben made up a bed for him in there. =D

I thought about this post as I looked on the happy cutie pie all snuggled down.

Wish I'd taken a picture.
