I've been planning out the next year and a half, and almost all my books are here, except for History. Well, and the "Animal Encyclopedia" that was mislabled: the sticker says it's an Animal Encyclopedia, but the title says "The Oswego Fugues" and it's strange poetry inside. So we'll have to see about sending that one back and getting the right one. But otherwise, getting all these books in the mail is very exciting!
I sat down and did some planning. I've got things sketched out for the next 6 weeks or so. I don't want to plan out too far in advance yet, because I want to make sure the little planning form I made up is going to work for me before I get crazy with the planning. It's exciting! I'm really looking forward to doing this next week, and seeing how things go. We're picking up the pace a little bit, and will continue to do so over the next couple months. The plan is to be at a full schedule in September.
Raven was busy too this week: he did a couple of big things. One was his first hunk of banana, which he loved. And so of course he made a slimy mess out of it. He also sat up for 5 seconds, unassisted. And he signed "milk" for the first time, clear as day. I love baby sign language!

Awesome planning! I try to be as organized as possible, but my blog serves as my "records" and I only plan a few days at a time. And just starting to think about next year! LOL Looks like you have some GREAT books there!

Well, my problem is more sticking to the plan once I make it, LOL. This is the first time I've tried a written out schedule like this, on paper. Though I've been doing something very similar on a marker board for a while - successfully. So we'll see if I can get it moved to paper, which will leave a better record, since I don't always get things blogged. It's really just a spreadsheet, and I spent most of school time last week working out those schedules for the next 6 weeks. I've already got a few tweaks that I'm thinking about: I didn't put scripture study on the schedule. Though I do have it on another schedule I made up, a la Flylady, but that one needs tweaking too... I'm beginning to think that being organized is a journey, not a destination!
I'm excited about those books. Since we're building up to a full schedule, we won't be using quite a few of them for a while, but I'm so excited!

You have young ones, too. When I first started homeschooling, I planned the same way: I had a grid that I recorded plans, activities, field trips, books, and "areas to work on". You get more accomplished WITH goals than without! Planning is GREAT! But my kids are older now and I have more of them so I veered away from the grid...and went to planner with months (for activities, field trips and appts) and week-at-a-glance (planning and assignments). I've also used the free download of Homeschool Tracker (but I felt it took way too much time).
Oh, I forgot! I do write daily assignments down on a whiteboard each night for the next day. The kids feel accomplished when they erase their assignments!
And the Play Dough - it keeps soft as long as it's in a sealed container or baggie for quite some time. I probably wouldn't keep it more than 2 weeks though as it is DOUGH and would mold.

Would you mind sharing that new plan you created?:) I've learned that planning one month at a time works best for me. Otherwise, I'm revising my plans. Still looking for a record keeping system that works for me.

I am really impressed with your planning! That is one thing that I "thought" I'd be good at with the homeschooling, but in reality it just doesn't happen. We're lucky if we plan a week or two out. If you can keep this up when yours are school-aged, that would be awesome!
