Sunday Scripture 1

"Teach me, O Lord, the way of thy statues;
and I shall keep it unto the end.

"Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law;
yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.

"Make me to go in the path of thy commandments;
for therein do I delight.

"Incline my heart unto thy testimonies,
and not to covetousness.

"Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity;
and quicken thou me in thy way.

"Stablish thy word unto thy servant,
who is devoted to thy fear.

"Turn away my reproach which I fear:
for thy judgments are good.

"Behold, I have longed after thy precepts:
quicken me in thy righteousness."
-Psalms 119:33-40

So, I was thinking, if anyone else wants to do a Sunday Scripture, we could make a blogroll & perhaps have themes. If anyone's interested, let me know!

Your scripture was lovely. Makes me think; have I really "longed" after His precepts? And if not, that's a bit of a problem isn't it? Perhaps I need to sort myself out a bit.

A blogroll thing is a good idea!
Except I'm not much into themes. Maybe I could be...but I'd much rather post a scripture that had touched me and uplifted me rather than some random one that just fits a theme, kwim? Or maybe it's possible to do both, I don't know.

I love the idea of being "quickened" in righteousness. This whole passage talks about being whole-hearted & fully engaged in seeking knowledge of the Lord. What a worthy goal! It's one that I need to work on again. Seems that I have my very own "Nephite Cycle" in my scripture reading: sometimes I can study for hours, can hardly put the book down, and I'm all excited about it. Other times, it's all I can do to read the little bit I need to get my lesson ready. I'm currently in the downswing, need to turn things around again. There is such safety and joy in knowing what's actually in the scriptures! And once you dig into them, the old style language gets easier to understand, which is nice.

I hear ya on the themes tho. I was somewhat thinking in that direction too: I just opened up & started thumbing through this week, and there was that lovely scripture. It wasn't even one I had been familiar with before. I doubt that I'd've found it if I'd been thinking about a theme.
